THE FOUNDATION OF THEBES was our first fully realized experiment in live composition. It was an abstract exploration of the Greek story of the mythological foundation of the city of Thebes. We sought to improvise within the otherwise very rigid structure of Greek tragedy. For this project, Walter Thompson, inventor of Soundpainting, joined us for a week-long residency in Buffalo, NY. We performed the completed piece at SoundLAB, the performance space for Big Orbit Gallery. This clip is from the “Monody” section.
